Say ‘I Do’ with Something You Did!
Make your own Wedding Ring in a Day
Come and spend a relaxed and creative day with your bride/groom-to-be in a fully equipped jewellery studio located in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Devon.
You will have full and sole access to the studio all day, and be expertly guided step by fascinating step through the process of making your very own wedding bands by Robin Shelton; a degree qualified jeweller and silversmith with over thirty years experience of designing, making and teaching.
Designing your Wedding Ring
Prior to your actual making day, we will discuss exactly what size and profile your rings are going to be. This will ascertain the type and length of bullion needed to make your rings, and thus give you an accurate idea of the cost of materials. Please bear in mind that bullion prices fluctuate daily so Robin will always err on the side of caution when quoting prices - wedding plans do not need any nasty surprises!
Your day will consist of cutting and filing the bullion strips to the exact length required, forming the rings, hard-soldering them to make a complete band, truing them to make them perfectly round and finally finishing and polishing them to a mirror finish. The rings will then be sent for hallmarking and returned to you, boxed, ready for your special day.
Recorded Memories of Making Your Rings
During the day there will be a selection of refreshments available, along with a special lunch. Robin will take photographs of you making your rings and will email these files to you afterwards. A glass or two of fizz – or something soft if you prefer – at the end of the day should round things off nicely! Please let Robin know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements.
The above is a guideline for making two plain wedding bands; however, your wedding is unique to you so he is very happy to discuss any bespoke requirements you have – left-field design ideas, utilising/reworking existing pieces of jewellery are all welcome options.
Please note. Some metals* are notoriously difficult to work; in this instance Robin recommends making the rings in silver on the day (which of course you will retain), then moulding and casting them in your preferred metal.
