Porth
Gateway to the World
A Travelling Exhibition featuring the work of eleven fine and applied artists based in the South West of England.
The journey begins at 44AD, Bath on Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd September, continuing at The Net Loft in Porthleven, Cornwall from Saturday 28th September to Friday 4th October.
Porth is a much used word for place names in Cornwall, derived from the Latin ‘porti’ meaning portal or gate in Welsh and cove or harbour in Cornish. The word carries many meanings, such as harbour, haven or gate, implying a place of safety; Bath is a city walled by the Romans and still has one gate. It can also be a haven for creativity.
Porth offers a portal to the imaginations of the artists and makers in this travelling exhibition.
The location of the shows are vastly contrasting. Firstly, a historic urban Georgian Townhouse in the centre of the city, with all the bustle, noise and pigeons. Then moving down the tip of England to a traditional working fishing port, with it's seagulls, weather and bustle of a windy watery kind. We look forward to inhabiting these differing landscapes and observing how the artworks change, if at all, in these two spaces.
